What's a virtual open house? Tigard is hosting one
TIGARD, Ore. -- According to the most recent community attitudes survey, traffic congestion continues to be a major concern for city residents. In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, the city is asking for your constructive comments on proposed improvements to the Pacific Hwy./Gaarde St./McDonald St. intersection.

Tigard and our partners at ODOT have developed conceptual design alternatives to improve traffic flow and safety at this intersection. Our plan is to gather as many of your comments as possible as we narrow down the range of alternatives. Our goal is to find the design that makes the best use of taxpayer funds to improve our mobility and safety through this intersection.

Conceptual designs recommended for further study are:

Caught on video: Robbery suspect waves knife, grabs cash

KING CITY, Ore. – Detectives in Washington County are looking for a man who they said robbed a deli near King City earlier this month.

A man walked into the Lil’ Brick Deli, located at 16735 SW Pacific Highway, at around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 17 and robbed the clerk with a knife, according to Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. David Thompson.

The clerk told deputies a man wearing a dark hoody asked her for change. When she opened the register, he tried to grab the money in the till. The clerk threw and handful of change at him when he tried to grab for it, Thompson said.

The suspect lunged at the clerk with the knife while she tried to prevent him from taking the money in the cash register, Thompson said. He took the money from the till and ran away.

The clerk was not hurt in the robbery.

Detectives seek help to ID robbery suspect of convenience store

KING CITY, Ore. -- Police have released surveillance video of a robbery of a convenience store, hoping it will help apprehend the robber.

At about 3:15 p.m. Jan. 17, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Lil’ Brick Deli at 16735 SW Pacific Highway near King City, in unincorporated Washington County. The clerk at the store reported she had just been robbed by a man who had a knife.

Deputies converged on the area and used a K9 to search for the suspect, but they were not able to find him. The clerk told the investigating deputies that a man entered the store wearing a dark-colored hoody. She said, he asked her for change, and when she opened the register, he grabbed for the money in the till. The clerk had a hand full of change, and threw it at the suspect when he was reaching in the till.

The man showed a knife and started to lunge at the clerk while she was trying to prevent the suspect from taking the money. However, the clerk was not injured by the knife. The man took the money from the till and ran out of the deli.

Urban Forestry public hearing nears

TIGARD, Ore. -- The City of Tigard's Urban Forestry Code Revisions (UFCR) project is now entering the legislative process. Based on input and review from Tigard residents, stakeholders and experts in the field, the UFCR project proposal will be reviewed by the city's Planning Commission.

Tigard has taken a conservative approach in sending notice to all property owners, based on Measure 56 criteria. On January 13, the city sent notice that adoption of the proposed Urban Forestry Code Revisions "may affect the permissible uses of your property." This language is required by state law. The purpose of this notice is to ensure that city residents and stakeholders have ample opportunity to learn about the proposed code and provide comments and testimony to decision makers.

The first public hearing on the Urban Forestry Code Revisions will be held at the Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in Tigard Town Hall (13125 SW Hall Blvd.).
