Selena Yokoyama, Jamie Maier and Lynne Fergusson will head the committee that is organizing this event and are actively seeking contact information for former teachers and alumni.

"It has been a joy to see the preschool evolve over the last 40 years.  It will be an even greater pleasure to celebrate this milestone with everyone whose lives were touched by Metzger Community Preschool," said Marilyn Sturm, a founder of the preschool.

The celebration is a free event and will be held at

WES hits 1-year mark

Tuesday marked the first anniversary of TriMet's Westside Express Service (WES) that connects Tualatin, Wilsonville, Tigard and Beaverton.

According to TriMet, 42 percent of the line's riders previously drove to their destinations.

Still, ridership on the WES isn't growing as fast as initial projections had estimated. Transit leaders blame the economy, saying high unemployment has resulted in fewer commuters.

Beaverton teens arrested for vandalism, burglary of Tigard Toys R' Us

Tigard Police arrested a pair of 13-year-old boys for their roles in the vandalism and burglary of a Toys R' Us in Tigard Tuesday morning.

You want to hang with the mayor of Tigard? Feb. 6 is your chance

The Mayor of Tigard, Craig Dirksen, and members of the Tigard City Council will be at the Tigard Public Library at 9 a.m. Feb. 6 to visit with Tigard citizens in a relaxed setting.

In past years, the City Council held informal evening meetings when a month had a fifth Tuesday so citizens could drop-in to talk to the Council about any topic.

During its 2009 goal setting meeting, the City Council decided to experiment with extra meeting venues periodically throughout the year to give more citizens an opportunity to meet their local elected officials. Last October, the City Council held a Town Hall and invited residents to ask questions and discuss current events with the City Council, Senator Ginny Burdick, Representative Larry Galizio and recently appointed Representative Margaret Doherty.

This meeting will be held in the Library Lobby next to the Sesame Donuts coffee store immediately before the 3rd Annual Neighborhood Network Open House, which will be held in the Tigard Library Community Room from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
