Seen this guy around? If you have, you just might pocket $1,000

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Josh David Nicholas.

Nicholas, 36, currently has two outstanding warrants for his arrest. One is from Douglas County Community Corrections for Dangerous Drugs and the other is from the Washington County Circuit Court for failing to appear on a stolen vehicle charge. Both of these warrants have been active for almost one year, and deputies are having a difficult time locating Nicholas.

Nicholas has a lengthy criminal history, having been arrested more than 45 times in three different states.

Dog, two cats and a rat saved from burning home

On Thursday, Nov. 12 at 4:33 p.m., TVF&R firefighters were called to a house fire at 14425 S.W. 87th Court in Tigard.

While enroute, firefighters were told by 911 dispatchers that neighbors were indicating there might still be a young man inside the home.

First-arriving firefighters forced the front door and encountered heavy black smoke on both levels of the home.  Armed with hoselines, they began searching the home for occupants and looking for the main body of fire.

Although crews were able to quickly confirm that all family members had escaped the smoke-filled home, firefighters found the family’s Golden Retriever and two cats overcome by smoke. They were rescued and successfully resuscitated on scene by firefighters using pet resuscitation kits. These kits were purchased in 2007 thanks to several community donations and are carried on TVF&R’s command units.  A pet rat was rescued as well.

Get ready for the free leaf disposal and food drive in Tigard

Fall is coming and the city is asking residents to clear leaves from storm drains throughout the city. Leaves, in combination with winter rains, can clog storm drainage systems and flood city roadways.

To help area residents properly dispose of leaves, the City of Tigard is sponsoring four free leaf disposal and food drive events:

Tigard resident injured trying to extinguish fire

A homeowner in Tigard was transported to the hospital after attempting to extinguish a fire near his home’s water heater on Tuesday afternoon. A resident of the home at 9645 SW Brentwood Place called 911 to report a fire in a utility room. When dispatchers advised the resident to leave the house, one of the home’s occupants remained inside and continued to try to extinguish the fire. The resident told 911 dispatchers that he had been trying to fight the fire for several minutes before calling for help.

Crews from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue’s Station 35 and Station 51 arrived at the home within four minutes and initiated a fast attack, quickly knocking down the flames. As most of the TVF&R firefighters on scene worked to extinguish the flames, other TVF&R firefighters checked the home’s two occupants for injuries. One of the residents was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
