Since the Tigard Chamber of Commerce's first open house went so well, there's going to be another one.

From 4-6 p.m. Feb. 4, meet the new CEO, Board Members, and Chamber Members, have some wine, nosh hors d'oeuvres, and participate in a business card drawing. Everyone is invited. Bring business prospects, clients and friends.

Tigard deli robbed by gunman

A Tigard deli was robbed by an armed gunman Monday.

Tigard Police officers were dispatched to Windfall Deli (13815 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard) at approximately 8:30 p.m. Police say the alleged suspect entered the deli, displayed a handgun and demanded money from an employee. He fled the business on foot with an undetermined amount of money. There was one patron in the deli at the time the robbery occurred. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-7 with a thin build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt. 

A K9 track was initiated, but suspect was not found.

Anyone with information which could be helpful to investigators is asked to contact the Tigard Police Department at 503-639-6168.

Cops hold class for business owners to help prevent robberies

Armed robbery is one of the most serious and potentially dangerous crimes facing a variety of businesses within our community.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is offering a training workshop for retail businesses which is designed to reduce the chance of becoming a target for robbery, and increase the likelihood of apprehending these criminals if a robbery does occur.

The key to robbery prevention and avoiding injury during a robbery is to be prepared. Participants will learn about common characteristics and predictors of robbery. They will also learn what to do during and after a robbery, with an emphasis on maintaining their personal safety.

The training is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Feb.

A bad showing for a couple of Tigard restaurants

Is your favorite place to eat making the grade when it comes to health inspections? In our Restaurant Report Card series, we check it out for you. Here are this week's highs and lows.

Failing Grades

Santorini West in Southwest Portland - 72 (close to failing). The restaurant has flunked several times in the past.

Sinju in Tigard - 70 (one point from failing). This is the second time the restaurant has received a 70 in the past few years.

Courtside Café at The Courts in Beaverton - 58 (flunk).

Well, It's An Improvement

Faith China Restaurant in Tigard - This restaurant failed its inspection in November with a 52. Inspectors returned for the post failing inspection in December and the restaurant failed again with a 62. Now, at last, they barely passed - with a 70.

The Tigard Chamber of Commerce will host an open house on Jan. 21

The Tigard Chamber of Commerce membership drive will kick off with an evening Open House from 5-7 p.m. on Jan. 21.

Come meet the new CEO, board members, and chamber members while you have some wine, nosh hors d'oeuvres and participate in a business card drawing.

Bomb threat comes to conclusion at Tigard bank

KATU reporter Bob Heye is out at the scene of the bomb threat at a Bank of America in Tigard and is reporting the suspected bomb was boxes of trash marked with a message "bank of America lies" according to initial report from police.

The evacuation of the area has also ended.

This guy is a rock star -- kind of

In a story by Kristen Forbes of The Beaverton Valley Times, it seems that Brendan Hutchins has a flair -- a rock star flair.

Hutchins is the owner of Rockstar Remodel, a Tigard business that specializes in home remodeling.
